What's New for the 2018 Toyota Highlander?

The Toyota Highlander is one of the top rated SUVs in America. It's just rolling out of a model refresh in 2017 that saw the inclusion of a new 3.5 Liter V6 engine, the new SE trim level, some improved standard safety features and redesigned front and rear fascia. So, the 2018 Highlander is poised and ready to make waves in the SUV category without any remodeling for the new year. So, let's take a closer look at all the features.

Trims & Features

You can never accuse Toyota automakers of not providing enough options. The 2018 Highlander has several model trims. There's the base model LE and the LE Plus. Both come with 18-inch alloy wheels, UV reducing glass, a backup camera, and a 60/40 fold flat third row bench for added interior cargo space.

The XLE and SE models comprise the mid-range. The Highlander XLE has a power moonroof and integrated fog lights. It also comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen display that incorporates Entune Audio Premium sound with Navigation. The SE takes those amenities a step further by incorporating blue LED ambient lighting, distinctive mudguards, roof rails, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Both have leather seating and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Premium model trim for the Highlander is the Limited. It has an exclusive panoramic moonroof, chrome-laced bumper and distinctive 19-inch wheels on the exterior. Inside the cabin, you'll find a premium JBL Audio sound system, upgraded leather seating and surfaces, as well as an improved rear view camera monitor.

Horsepower

2018 Toyota HighlanderThere are a few powertrain options to choose from. The base model engine that comes with the LE trim is a fuel-efficient 2.7 Liter, four cylinder block that is paired with front-wheel drive and a six speed automatic. It can achieve 185 horsepower, but it's mostly meant for getting the most out of your fill-ups. The 3.5 Liter, V6 engine is a bit more versatile. It can be equipped with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The V6 also gets 295 horsepower and an eight speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission that can handle a 5,000 lb. towing capacity. The hybrid version of the Highlander is an attractive choice. It can be outfitted on the LE, XLE and Limited model trims. It comes with all-wheel drive as a standard feature and can achieve 306 horsepower.

Safety

You can add blind spot warnings and an anti-theft system to all models from the XLE up to the Limited. There are other standout safety feature for the Highlander such as a Bird's Eye View camera (which provides you with live, 360-degree views of the vehicle while driving or parked) and the rear parking-assisting sonar that can detect both moving and stationary objects behind the vehicle.
