What's New For the 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

Toyota Tacoma gets a few tweaks to its feature list for the 2021 model year, such as the Trail and Nightshade special edition packages, more standard equipment, and new safety and technology features. Toyota Safety Sense P is now standard on all Toyota Tacoma models, and you can get a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration.

The Tacoma Has Many Features Across Several Trims

There are six trims offered on the 2021 Toyota Tacoma: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. Other model configurations include the choice of cab types: Access Cab and Double Cab. The SR gets many amenities on the base model, like a composite bed, 16-inch wheels, heated exterior mirrors, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.

The SR5 brings you one step up the ladder. You get a leather-trimmed steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a locking/unlocking vehicle remote. There are several available option packages, including a Technology package only with the V6 (blind-spot monitoring with rear-traffic alert), Dynamic navigation package (rear parking sensors, a navigation system, only with the V6), and Trail Special Edition (unique trim on seating, 120-volt bed outlet, all-terrain tires, only on the Double Cab with V6).

The TRD Sport includes a V6 engine; you get heated mirrors, a sport-tuned suspension, body-colored fender flares, rear bumper, and a wireless charging pad. Available packages include the Technology (rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert), Premium Audio and Dynamic Navigation (JBL premium audio system, navigation system), Premium Sport (heated front seats, sunroof, and leather upholstery), and Advanced Technology (360-degree camera system) packages.

With the TRD Off-Road, you get Bilstein shocks, textured black fender flares, and an electronic locking rear differential. The available packages for TRD Off-Road are the same as for the TRD Sport. The Limited trim includes a leather interior, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a silver grille. You can also get a navigation system and a premium JBL audio system. The newest options package, the Nightshade Special Edition (includes black exterior styling elements and wheels), is available on the Limited trim.

The top trim is TRD Pro, which adds to TRD Off-Road features list includes LED headlights, a multi-terrain monitor, sunroof, black grille, which is an off-road camera system, leather upholstery, and 16-inch black-painted TRD wheels with all-terrain tires.

What's Under the Hood of the Toyota Tacoma?

Most trims are available with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive on demand. You can also choose between two engines and transmissions on select trims. The base engine is a four-cylinder with a 2.7L displacement. This engine creates approximately 160 HP, and it produces about 180 LB-FT in torque. It comes with an automatic transmission that has six speeds. The second engine is available for the SR5. This engine is a larger and more powerful one with six cylinders. Its power output is nearly 280 HP, and it generates over 260 LB-FT in torque. You have a choice of a manual transmission as well.

Tacoma Safety at the Forefront

The 2021 Tacoma has a bundle of driver-assist safety aids, including adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, lane departure alert, and automatic emergency braking. Trailering safety features are available.
