The Toyota Tundra gets moderate updates in the latest model year. One of the biggest changes is the addition of more safety features than before. This year, all trims come with the Toyota Safety Sense package of driver-assist safety aids. All safety packages get some standard features, but the higher-level trims get the greatest number of safety amenities.
The addition of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone connectivity are notable features in the 2020 Tundra. Larger multimedia screens are standard on the Tundra. For the first time in several years, the TRD Pro is once again available in a double cab layout.
There are six trim levels of the 2020 Toyota Tundra. The base model is called the SR. This year, its tailgate is easier to open and close than before. Its windows and doors are power-locking as well. Daytime running lights add to the truck's visibility. The cabin features a seven-inch infotainment display screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
A backup camera comes standard, as does an integrated brake control for the trailer. The second trim is the SR5. Head-turning 18-inch alloy wheels are optional on this trim level. It also has fog lights for enhanced visibility. The interior has upgrades in the form of a larger eight-inch touchscreen and an audio system with HD radio and satellite radio. The Limited features dual-zone climate control and larger 20-inch wheels with a unique five-spoke design. Leather-trimmed seats and heated seats are standard on the Limited.
It also gets LED headlights and fog lights. The Platinum has a unique brushed-metal trim. It also has 20-inch wheels. The leather seats are perforated for additional comfort. A power-operated sunroof is available. Although the entire Tundra family is perfectly capable of handling off-road conditions, the TRD Pro is the most equipped for trails with a fine-tuned suspension system, durable tires, and other outdoor-oriented elements. Custom TRD Pro wheels, a deluxe audio system, and a sunroof with a built-in sunshade are other highlights of the TRD Pro. The 1974 Edition offers a winning combination of modern style with vintage looks. Its interior features a Western-style design complete with brown leather trim on the seats.
This year there is just one engine available in the 2020 Toyota Tundra. It is a 5.8L engine with eight cylinders and 32 cylinder heads. Independent variable valve timing is a key feature of the engine. It also has a fortified exhaust manifold made of stainless steel. This engine can produce 381 HP at 5,600 RPM. It can also crank out up to 401 LB-FT of torque at 3,600 RPM. A six-speed automatic is the default transmission on all trim levels of the 2020 Tundra.
There are plenty of safety amenities designed to keep the Tundra's occupants safe. All trim levels of the Tundra have eight airbags and an advanced airbag system. Tire pressure monitoring and trailer sway dampening are other highlights of the Tundra. The Toyota Safety Sense package offers forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, radar cruise control, and automatic high beams.
