Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to help develop a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Along with six other automakers, Toyota is supporting IONNA with the goal of enhancing access to charging stations for EV drivers.

IONNA aims to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will feature both NACS and CCS connectors, ensuring compatibility with all BEVs. The first batch of DC fast-charging stations will be deployed this year, with more to follow nationwide.

This move highlights Toyota’s commitment to expanding its BEV offerings. Currently, the automaker has two BEV models on the market: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Toyota also plans to introduce two three-row BEV SUVs soon and aims to offer 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

Toyota joins other top automakers—including BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis—in backing IONNA. As efforts to improve EV charging infrastructure ramp up, electric vehicles are likely to gain even more popularity.
