The 2016 Toyota RAV4 SE has come out on top again after recently winning the 2WD Class at the Olympus Rally in Shelton, Washington. This marks the second back-to-back win for the SUV and its driver, Ryan Millen. The duo also won the Oregon Trail competition earlier this year.
For Millen, it all comes down to high-quality craftsmanship. “We know that thousands of hours have gone into the engineering of the RAV4, and we don’t mess with a good thing,” said Millen.
Both competitions presented huge obstacles like massive stones that relentlessly pounded the RAV4’s undercarriage. The Olympus Rally featured over 100 stage miles over two days, so needless to say, it was a very grueling course.
The SUV kept its original stock engine and automatic transmission, which is impressive when you consider that most race vehicles are equipped with racing-specific hardware or modifications.
Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder motor the RAV4 really moves. In fact, this peppy powerplant produces 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive come standard while all-wheel drive is optional. In testing, an AWD Toyota RAV4 hit 60 mph in only 9.2 seconds.
EPA-estimated ratings for the front-wheel-drive RAV4 are 26 mpg combined (23 city/30 highway). Those numbers go down slightly to 25 mpg combined, 22 city and 29 highway with the AWD model. The five-passenger compact SUV is offered in these trims: LE, XLE, SE and Limited. There is also a hybrid RAV4.
