No matter how many passengers are in your car or if you’re alone, safety should always come first. But with more distractions than ever before, it’s very easy for drivers to develop bad driving habits. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you stay safe on the road.
Don’t Drive Tired
Obviously, you won’t want to drive if you’re tired. If you absolutely have to drive though, drink something with caffeine in it to help you wake up.
Avoid Medication
Like drugs or alcohol, some medications can severely impair your ability to drive as well. If you’re unsure, check with your pharmacist or doctor.
Drive Cautiously
Follow the speed limits and keep your eyes on the road. When changing lanes always use caution. Make sure you check your mirrors and blind spots whenever you switch lanes. Cutting someone off, changing lanes too fast or not using your turn signals can upset drivers and can cause an accident.
Pay Attention
Try turning down the music for a change. You might actually like it! Keeping your radio at a decent volume will help you stay more focused on the road.
Paying attention to road closures and signs is always a good idea. Give yourself enough time to make lane changes and don’t follow too closely.
Adjust Your Driving Accordingly
Make sure you adjust your driving to inclement weather conditions. If it’s raining, slow down! That same advice applies to other problematic circumstances like icy roads or road construction. If your tires are worn, get new ones.
Ignore Your Cell Phone
Perhaps the biggest problem with cell phones and driving is texting. Your text messages can wait until you’re out of your car. It only takes seconds to get into an accident and cell phones can easily cause you to lose your focus on the road.

Talking on the phone is also a distraction, so try to avoid it when you’re behind the wheel.
