Cut Down on Watching and Reading the News

The news is important as it keeps us informed of what is happening in our community, and the rest of the world. Watching or reading the news too much can lead to more fear and stress. This is not what’s needed now, so reduce your exposure to the news. Instead, read a book or watch a movie.

Reach Out to Family and Friends

Take a few moments to create a group text that includes all the members of your immediate family. Ask everyone to text once per day and let others know they are okay. This will help to prevent feelings of loneliness, and it takes the distance out of social distancing in a safe way.Face-to-face chatting platforms like FaceTime and Android Messages are also an excellent way to keep in touch with family, friends and coworkers.

Stay Physically Active

While the gym is closed, you can still get your moves in. There are many exercises you can do without equipment in your home. Doing calisthenics are a great way to stay active. Staying active is not only important for your body, it helps to relieve stress and anxiety.

Learn Something New

This is a great opportunity to learn something new. You can learn a new language, dust off an old hobby, or develop a new skill. There are a ton of learning platforms and colleges and universities offering online courses, and for free. You can download learning apps on your mobile device. Embrace this period of social distancing as an opportunity to better yourself.

If you had a growing to-do list and were too busy to attack it, now is the time to get it done. You'll be surprised how many things you can accomplish with all this extra time.
