You might have heard by now that Scion has been discontinued by Toyota. Well, with the passing of the Scion brand, so too will the FR-S name be laid to rest.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for all you Scion FR-S fans out there: The sports car will be replaced by the 2017 Toyota 86, which is expected to have more dynamic styling and better power, than its predecessor.

This is good news, but you may also be wondering what’s up with the name change to Toyota 86? In other words, the Toyota 86 is replacing the Scion FR-S. “When we announced the transition of the Scion models to Toyota we hadn’t planned on changing the names of our cars, but by popular demand, for our sports car, we decided to adopt the global name of 86,” said Toyota Division Group vice president, Bill Fay.

Outside, the most notable change is the new front bumper, which features a large intake structure, that stretches across the coupe’s width.

The all-new Toyota 86 also gets enhanced front and back lights with LED units. In addition, it gets new twist-spoke wheels that give the car a sportier look than what is currently offered on the Scion FR-S.

On the inside, the classy coupe gets more subtle but worth mentioning improvements, like silver-like stitching and new materials that are incorporated into the doors and dash.

Under the hood, the Toyota 86 comes with a 2-liter engine that cranks out 205 horsepower, five more horses than the FR-S, and 156 pound-feet of torque.

The added power on the Toyota 86 is made possible by different gear ratios for the six-speed automatic. Plus, the 86 model gets Hill Start Assist Control technology.

In 2021, the Toyota "GR86" replaced both the "86" and "Scion FR-S". The GR86 is equipped with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated flat-four boxer engine, generating 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. We expect to have the Toyota GR86 in stock at Toyota of Dallas. You may want to consider checking out our sporty GR86 models online
