When it comes to safety, the 2016 Toyota Prius has got you covered. In recent crash tests, conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Prius Hybrid and Prius Prime Plug-in hybrid models achieved high marks; ones that are definitely worth considering when shopping for your next new car.
To kick things off, the completely redesigned 2016 Prius scored a “good” rating for front, side, roof and head restraints from the IIHS. Plus, the car’s optional crash-avoidance system earned a “superior” score.
And that’s not all. Both models also achieved a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. See the Prius NHTSA test by watching the video above.

Offered in eight trims, Two, Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four, Four Touring, C and V, the Prius comes dressed with state-of-the-art features no matter the grade. For starters, the base Two gets standard features like 15-inch alloys, automatic LED headlights, and LED running lights and taillights.
On top of these benefits, there’s also heated mirrors, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and much more. Entertainment-wise, the fuel-efficient Prius gets a 6.1-inch touchscreen, rearview camera and voice recognition. There’s also a six-speaker sound system that is offered at no additional charge.
