There was probably a lot of champagne corks popped at Toyota’s headquarters in January as Toyota once again took the crown of bestselling automaker in the world. This is a gigantic accomplishment, only made sweeter by the fact that this is Toyota’s third year in a row as top dog.

In 2014, Toyota sold over 10.23 million cars worldwide, which was over 100,000 cars more than its closest competitor. This has been an amazing year for the auto industry in general, but this was the first time that Toyota surpassed 10 million in car sales in a single year. The U.S. was a big market for the automaker as well, selling 2.37 million cars – a 6.2 percent increase from the year before. This sales success seems to be due several factors, including innovative new car designs, such as the all-new 2015 Toyota Camry and the ever-popular Toyota Corolla.

It will be exciting to see this year if Toyota can take the title once again. The automaker is already touting excellent redesigns of some of its most popular cars, including the Toyota Tacoma, as well as fresh new green cars like the hydrogen fuel-cell Mirai that is set to hit the market sometime this winter. Toyota is also looking to capitalize on the popularity of its Prius Hybrid model that continues to be one of the bestselling hybrid cars on the market.
